MAS Freedom-AZ Director, Deedra Abboud Receives 2009 CPL Political Leaders Fellowship

Center for Progressive Leadership Fellowship Recipients Announced

WASHINGTON, D.C. (MASNET) – MAS Freedom (MASF), as the civic and human rights advocacy entity of the Muslim American Society (MAS) MAS Freedom congratulates its Arizona chapter Executive Director, Deedra Abboud on being selected as a 2009 Center for Progressive Leadership (CPL) Fellow. The Arizona Political Leaders Fellowship is a 9-month, part-time program that focuses on providing the long-term resources and skills necessary for emerging leaders to become powerful political advocates for their communities.

Through training, coaching, project-based work and mentoring, the fellowship program gives up-and-coming leaders the skills and networks they need to advance progressive political change in their communities.


As an advocate for change, Deedra Abboud works relentlessly to build bridges between the Muslim community and the Arizona community at-large. She has a wealth of experience working collaboratively with religious and secular groups to make her community a great place to live.

In addition to her work with the larger community, Deedra works with Muslim youth on understanding civic responsibilities and creating venues for volunteering and interacting with the community around them. Deedra's never-ending enthusiasm and dedication is exemplified in the various activities and programs of which she is a part. She is the Executive Director of the Muslim American Society's MAS Freedom Arizona chapter. She is an active board member of the Voices for Civil Dialogue, and an active participant for Interfaith Worker Justice (IWJ-AZ).

In addition, Deedra is a regular speaker on diversity for Arizona State University classes and events, including the School of Social Work and the College of Law. Deedra also participates in peace and social change programs all over Maricopa County as well as the state of Arizona.
